Liz
has always enjoyed beautiful art and decided with a friend to join an
art class. Before that could happen however, the friend moved out of state
and
with that she decided to pursue the dream on her own. That was the beginning
of a long and wonderfully enjoyable journey in art for Liz.
Her
four children were almost grown and each class only made her want to learn
more about painting the light as it turns on an object, giving it form and
beautiful
color. Living in the Houston area afforded her the opportunity of studying
with
fine artists, many of whom have become life-long friends. Mable Sellers, her
first
floral instructor, touched a chord in her soul, causing Maness to love the
use of color
in painting flowers and still live. The love of gardening, inherited from her
mother,
and this new found love of painting went hand in hand as the two arts are so
closely related to each other.
Studies
continued with such notable artists as William Henry Earle, Bill Reese,
Charles Sovek, Kevin McPherson and Ovanis Berberian, to name a few.
The quest for knowledge went on as she enrolled at Glassell School of Art,
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Ruidoso School of Art, Ruidoso, N.M.
Many
awards have come Maness’s way as she enjoys entering Juried Competitions
throughout the country, teaching and demonstrating for art leagues and other
groups.
During
travels and painting trips across the U.S. as well as Mexico and Europe
(sometimes accompanied by a group of students) Liz finds exciting subjects,
capturing the essence of the scene is the artist’s priority.
Whether
painting the breath-taking, light-filled mountains of Switzerland or wild
flowers
sprinkled over a field, impressions are recorded in a representational
manner.
“I
don’t feel as if I choose to paint. I have to paint, and I cannot
imagine my life without it.”
